Lin Hengyue

Dr. Lin Hengyue’s playing has been described as “High-spirited, warm-hearted, with feeling and sensitivity” by The Straits Times; “She is a true virtuosa” by Steinway artist Dr. Claire Wachter. Hengyue holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Oregon under Steinway Artists Dr. Dean Kramer, with a supporting area in piano pedagogy. She received Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in piano performance under full scholarships from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory respectively, under Marian Hahn and Albert Tiu. She was the prize winner of the 30th Washington International Young Artist Piano Competition, recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Performer in Piano Award from the University of Oregon in 2020, and has performed solo recitals and appeared in concert series at the United States Department of States, the Carnegie Hall, the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. and etc.

As a music educator, Hengyue is currently piano faculty and academic faculty at Singapore Raffles Music College. She was invited as a visiting professor to conduct a two-week teaching residency at the Guangxi Arts University, China, in December 2018. Hengyue was the adjudicator for VIVACE International Piano Competition Singapore Region 2022; Le Magnifique Piano Competition 2022. She has been conducting lectures, masterclasses, adjudicating competitions and examinations regularly at the University of Oregon, Singapore Raffles College of Music, as well as many music schools in the United States, China and Singapore. She was also the Graduate Employee in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Oregon.

As a collaborative artist, Hengyue toured with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in USA and Canada in February 2016. In August-September 2017, Hengyue and duo partner Wang Ji played a successful concert tour “Ballerinas” in Singapore and China, which received highly acclaimed reviews, and the duo has been performing regularly ever since in United States, China, Thailand, and Singapore. The duo was invited to perform "Yellow River Piano Concerto" in Esplanade organised by the Singapore-China Friendship Association in October 2019. Hengyue is also the Co-founder of ‘SG Inspirations’, a special new music initiative started in conjunction with Singapore’s jubilee celebration ‘SG50’. The project saw a successful concert premiering all new works by Singapore composers, and an album release in December 2015. In 2011, she performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Peabody Chorus for "Jeanne D'arc au bucher" under the baton of Marin Alsop in the Carnegie Hall and Meyerhoff Hall (Baltimore). Hengyue also worked as the school accompanist at the Peabody Institute and the University of Oregon.
